Broader Impacts Goal: Develop and establish a student led organization, Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering (ADSE). The goal of the organization is to provide professional and networking opportunities for underrepresented minorities. 1) Apply to the National Board and become a recognized chapter 2) Begin our Diversity in STEM Seminar Series 3) Develop outreach with local K-12 and community colleges.

The Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering chapter is a focused organized with the goal of diversifying science, specifically through recognizing leaders and their contributions in diversity, equity, and inclusion. In addition, the organization will build connection with local education platforms to introduce topics revolving around STEM, pursuing college, first look at graduate school, and informal science activities to engage youth.

The following documents include-

1) The national ADSE chapter application

2) First paragraph of a grant, submitted to the University of Oregon Division of Equity and Inclusion, an emphasis on the IDEAL Framework (Inclusion, Diversity, Evaluation, Achievement, Leadership).

3) Lesson activity used in initial outreach with the Eugene Science Center, an informal science outreach activity that was developed from PHYS 608 (Science Outreach and Ecosystems). The activity consisted of introducing 3rd-5th graders the concepts of “molecules” with an emphasis of research that my research is focused on (H2S). To attain engagement and interest, molecules were placed on customized Pokémon Cards.
