Broader impact goal: improve high school and general chemistry curriculum and improve minority involvement in STEM

This 2 hour module was designed to introduce high school to early-college students to basic, fundamental chemistry topics through three mini experiments focused on environmental issues.

Students learn how to separate oil and water using electrochemistry, explore the interactions between soap and milk while having fun with moving colors, and set up their own electrolysis cell. This activity can be used as a stand-alone outreach activity or incorporated into curriculum as a general chemistry laboratory experiment.

An interactive workbook with step-by-step instructions guides students through each activity. An instructor edition and lecture slides have also been developed and are available for download below. All documents can be adapted and edited as desired.
