Broader Impact Goal: To enhance chemical education by building a supportive community and providing relevant pedagogy resources.
This 8-week training program was designed to equip new graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) with fundamental skills for their teaching assignments through discussion-based meetings focused on pedagogy.
During weekly, 1-hour workshops, students were involved in 20 minutes of class-based discussions and 40 minutes of teaching-based discussions. For the lab-based discussions, attendants were split into groups depending on what course they were currently or have previously taught to encourage communication. During these discussions, older graduate student Lead TA recorded notes to document relevant issues and solutions for future years. For the teaching-based discussions, a senior graduate student Module Leader gave a short presentation on a teaching subject followed by both small and large group discussions to provide learning and reflection upon teaching techniques.
A detailed weekly schedule and meeting materials (discussion material, module leader presentations, etc.) are available below. These documents can be used as reference for future TA Workshops.
